Washington State tax
Washington State taxes: B&O, capital gains, and sales and use
Washington has no personal income tax. It does have a Business & Occupation tax, a capital gains tax, and sales and use tax.
Business & Occupation tax
Washington levies B&O on gross receipts, so you owe it whether or not you made a profit, and the Department of Revenue sets a different rate for each classification. We prepare B&O returns alongside the federal work.
Capital gains tax
A state tax on certain long-term gains above an annual threshold. It can apply to gains on equity compensation shares and other one-off sales. We model it with you before you sell.
Sales and use
Rates vary by location across Snohomish County, and Washington charges use tax on out-of-state purchases where the seller did not collect Washington sales tax.
